- 1964 JAC dates itself to 20 May 1964, and its own chronology opens there: 「1964年5月20日 合肥江淮汽车制造厂成立」 — "20 May 1964, the Hefei Jianghuai Automobile Manufacturing Plant was established" — followed by 「1968年4月 第一辆江淮牌载货汽车试制成功,填补了安徽汽车工业的空白」, "April 1968, the first JAC-badged lorry was successfully built, filling a gap in Anhui's automobile industry". The company profile says 「江淮汽车始建于1964年」, "JAC was founded in 1964", and the 2025 annual report opens its management discussion with the same words. The listed company is later and narrower: Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Corp., Ltd. was formed by promotion under Anhui provincial approvals and registered on 30 September 1999, and its shares were admitted to the Shanghai Stock Exchange under the code 600418 on 24 August 2001. 1964 is the business; 1999 is the incorporation of the joint stock company that now holds it.
- 2020 Volkswagen took half of JAC's parent on 2 December 2020. Through Volkswagen (China) Investment Co., Ltd. it subscribed new registered capital of RMB 1,791,542,945 in Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Holdings Co., Ltd. (安徽江淮汽车集团控股有限公司, "JAG") for RMB 2,382,732,197, taking the holding company's registered capital to RMB 3,583,085,890 and leaving Anhui's state assets commission and Volkswagen with 50 percent each. The stake stops at the holding company and does not reach the listed business: the announcement of the investment agreement, signed by video link on 11 June 2020, states 「本次交易完成后,大众中国投资将成为本公司控股股东江汽控股的股东,持有江汽控股50%的股权,安徽省国资委持有江汽控股50%的股权并仍控制江汽控股,因此本次交易不涉及本公司控制权的变更」 — "on completion Volkswagen China Investment will become a shareholder of the Company's controlling shareholder JAG, holding 50 percent of JAG, while Anhui SASAC holds 50 percent of JAG and still controls JAG, so this transaction does not involve any change in control of the Company". JAC's 2025 annual report still names Anhui SASAC as 最终控制方, the ultimate controlling party, with JAG the immediate parent on 28.23 percent. The same completion renamed the JAC-Volkswagen joint venture Volkswagen (Anhui) Automotive Co., Ltd. and left Volkswagen China with 75 percent of it and JAC with 25 — a separate company that is not JAC and is not collected here. The new shares were subscribed rather than bought from a seller.
JAC

Trucks came first and the cars followed, and nearly everything wears the Jianghuai name — built by unincorporated branches of the listed company rather than by subsidiaries, with the ultra-luxury badge it develops with Huawei as the exception. Anhui's state holding company is its largest shareholder and holds well short of a majority.
