Eleven years, one owner

The year is coloured by whoever held it at the time.

  1. 2015 Leapmotor was incorporated in Hangzhou on 24 December 2015 as Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Limited, a limited liability company, by two co-founders of the surveillance-equipment maker Dahua Technology and a handful of other individual shareholders, with Dahua itself subscribing a third of the registered capital. It delivered its first car, the S01 coupe, in July 2019, converted into a joint stock company in April 2021 and listed its H shares in Hong Kong on 29 September 2022. No company has controlled it at any point since it was founded.
  2. 2023 Stellantis became Leapmotor's largest shareholder on 20 November 2023, when a subscription agreed on 26 October completed: 194,260,030 new H shares at HK$43.8 each, about HK$8,508.6 million, taking it to roughly a fifth of the company. Two thirds of the stake was new shares issued by Leapmotor itself; the other 90,000,000 shares were bought on the same day from Zhejiang Dahua Technology, the surveillance-equipment maker the two founders also started, which had held a third of Leapmotor at its establishment and from that day held none. The stake did not pass control and has not since: Stellantis carries Leapmotor as an associate in its own accounts and Leapmotor's accounts say it has no controlling shareholder at all.

No company controls it. Its founders and their spouses vote together and hold the largest block of shares, but they hold it as individuals rather than through a company, and the European carmaker that later took a large minority carries the holding as an associate rather than a subsidiary.
