87 years, two owners

The year is coloured by whoever held it at the time.

1. 1939 Enzo Ferrari set up his own company in 1939, initially called Auto Avio Costruzioni, after leaving Alfa Romeo under a contract that barred him from building cars in his own name. It made machine tools, chiefly hydraulic grinding machines, and one racing model, the 815, which ran in the Mille Miglia on 28 April 1940. He moved the business from Modena to Maranello in late 1943, where it has been ever since, and the first car to carry the Ferrari name, the 125 S, followed in 1947.
2. 1969 The Fiat group bought 50 percent of Ferrari S.p.A. in 1969 and raised that to 90 percent in 1988 after Enzo Ferrari's death, the remaining 10 percent staying with his son Piero Ferrari. That 90 percent is the shareholding Fiat's successor Fiat Chrysler Automobiles transferred to Ferrari N.V. in October 2015 on the way out. There is no company to name on either side: Enzo Ferrari sold as an individual, and the buyer was Fiat S.p.A., the group holding company, which merged into Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. in October 2014 and is not the Fiat Automobiles S.p.A. that carries the Fiat badge today.
3. 2015 Ferrari S.p.A. came under Ferrari N.V. in October 2015, in the restructuring that set up the separation from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. FCA transferred its 90 percent shareholding in Ferrari S.p.A. to the new Dutch holding company and Piero Ferrari transferred his 10 percent, so that Ferrari N.V. held all of it; the same step moved the assets and business of Ferrari North Europe Limited across. Ferrari's IPO prospectus dates the restructuring to 17 October 2015 and its first annual report to 19 October 2015, and both put it days before the initial public offering. FCA itself is not an entity in this dataset.
