Wikidata dates it to 28 July 2017. It took the Aion name with the badge it created, and changed legal form along the way: GAC began a mixed-ownership reform in August 2021, moved its electric-car research staff and assets into the company that November, gave 679 key employees and research-institute staff shares in March 2022, and completed the conversion to a joint-stock company in September 2022. None of that changed who controlled it.

GAC's own badges include Trumpchi, which it built a company around two years before it had a car to sell, and Aion and Hyptec, which belong to an electric-car subsidiary that took outside investors in without changing hands. The joint ventures it half owns build Hondas and Toyotas for China. Guangzhou's city government controls the group through an unlisted holding company rather than holding the shares itself.
