Alpine
71 years, one owner since 1980
The year is coloured by whoever held it at the time.
- 1955 Jean Rédélé, a Renault dealer in Dieppe, founded Alpine there in 1955. Alpine's own history says the marque officially came into being in June 1955 in Rédélé's home town of Dieppe, and its German press service says the company began operating in October 1955.
- 1973 Renault took control of Alpine in 1973. Renault Group's history of the Dieppe plant records "1973: Subsidization to the Renault Group. Name: Société des Automobiles Alpine Renault", and Alpine's German press service says Renault took the majority of the shares of the Dieppe sports car maker that year ("Renault 1973 die Aktienmehrheit an der Sportwagenschmiede aus Dieppe übernimmt"), with the founder Jean Rédélé selling his remaining shares to Renault in 1978. Rédélé was an individual, whom this dataset does not model.

3 marques
Nationalised in 1945 and privatised in 1996, Renault has no controlling shareholder: the French state is the largest, and Nissan holds shares from an alliance in which each company owns part of the other. Dacia and Alpine were bought as going concerns rather than invented.
