128 years, two owners since 1980
The year is coloured by whoever held it at the time.
- 1898 Renault dates itself from 1898: its heritage pages trace the group "from the founding of Renault in 1898 through to the present day". The business was nationalised by the ordinances of 16 January and 18 July 1945 and carried on as the Régie nationale des usines Renault; that year is kept as a conflict.
- 1996 Renault passed into the private sector in July 1996. An order of 3 July 1996 set the terms for transferring the property of the Régie nationale des usines Renault to the private sector: 14,395,142 Renault shares held by the State "seront cédées de gré à gré", sold by private agreement, at 139 francs each, to a group of banks and insurers. The Industry Minister's answer to a Senate written question, published on 3 October 1996, states that "il a été procédé le 15 juillet 1996 à la privatisation de Renault. En cédant environ 6 p. 100 du capital à un groupe d'investisseurs privés, la participation de l'Etat est en effet devenue minoritaire", and gives the State's share of the capital afterwards as 46.02%. No company took control: the State is not modelled, and no shareholder has controlled Renault since.
Renault
3 marques
Nationalised in 1945 and privatised in 1996, Renault has no controlling shareholder: the French state is the largest, and Nissan holds shares from an alliance in which each company owns part of the other. Dacia and Alpine were bought as going concerns rather than invented.
