Deepal
Four years, one owner
The year is coloured by whoever held it at the time.
- 2022 Changan launched Deepal as a brand in 2022. Its annual report for that year records it among the year's work — 「聚焦新能源领域,发布全新数字纯电品牌—深蓝,着手构建 OX 序列」, the release of a wholly new digital electric brand, Deepal, and the beginning of its OX line — and the first car under the badge, the 深蓝 SL03, went on sale the same year. This record is the badge, and the badge has never belonged to anyone but Changan. The cars are built by a company of the same name, 深蓝汽车科技有限公司, which is older and has its own quite separate story: it was established on 28 May 2018 as 重庆长安新能源汽车科技有限公司, was diluted out of Changan's control in January 2020 and brought back into it from February 2023, and took the brand's name on 6 April 2023. None of that is the marque's history, because for most of it the marque did not exist. Wikidata dates Deepal to April 2008, which appears to belong to a different Changan company of a similar name.
Changan
4 marques
Changan names its own brands rather than buying them, and the joint ventures on its books build Fords and Mazdas for China. The state owns it through a chain of holding companies that were renamed and then split apart in 2025, which leaves the listed company itself as the name anyone outside China recognises.
