40 years, one owner

The year is coloured by whoever held it at the time.

1. 1986 Li Shufu started the business in Taizhou, Zhejiang, that became the Geely marque; it set up its car-making arm and began selling cars under the Geely name from 1997.
2. 2004 Geely Holding completed moving its remaining car assets, sold under the Geely marque, into the operating companies it co-owned with the Hong Kong-listed Guorun Holdings, renamed Geely Automobile Holdings that March, on 6 July 2004. The listed company held 46.8% of those companies and accounted for them as associates; Geely Holding kept 53.2% and with it control of the business, and Li Shufu, one of the listed company's largest shareholders since January 2004, did not control the listed company until May 2005.
3. 2008 Geely Automobile Holdings completed buying a further 44.19% of each of its five car-making associates from Geely Holding on 1 July 2008, raising its interest from 46.8% to 91% and consolidating them as subsidiaries, so the business behind the Geely marque came under the listed company's control. Li Shufu had controlled both companies since 2005, so the business stayed with the same ultimate owner.
