1. 1910 Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili, or A.L.F.A., was established in Milan on 24 June 1910 and later took the Alfa Romeo name from Nicola Romeo.
2. 1987 Fiat S.p.A. bought Alfa Romeo from the Italian state. Finmeccanica, the IRI holding that owned Alfa Romeo, chose Fiat's offer over Ford's on 6 November 1986 and the Italian Government approved the decision the next day; on 2 January 1987 Fiat acquired the assets of Alfa Romeo SpA and Alfa Romeo Auto and the shareholdings in Alfa's subsidiaries for Lit 1,024.6 billion, the day the new Alfa Lancia group became operational. Neither party is in the dataset: Finmeccanica was a state holding vehicle, and Fiat S.p.A. merged into Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. in 2014.
3. 2014 Alfa Romeo passed from Fiat S.p.A. to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. on 12 October 2014, when Fiat S.p.A. merged with and into its Dutch subsidiary Fiat Investments N.V., which was renamed Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. on the same day and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange the next. FCA's first annual report names Alfa Romeo among the brands it designs, manufactures and sells. Neither party is in the dataset: Fiat S.p.A. ceased to exist in the merger, and FCA N.V. is the same registrant that was renamed Stellantis in 2021, which the dataset treats as beginning only then. Exor, the Agnelli family holding company, consolidated Fiat S.p.A. as a subsidiary before the merger and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. after it, with 29.25% of FCA's shares and 44.37% of its votes at the end of 2014.
4. 2021 Alfa Romeo came under Stellantis on 16 January 2021, when the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA took effect and Alfa Romeo was named as one of the fourteen brands of the combined company.
