1. 1862 Adam Opel set up a workshop in his parents house in Russelsheim in 1862 to build sewing machines, decades before the company made a car.
2. 1929 General Motors bought 80 percent of the stock of Adam Opel AG from the Opel family in March 1929 for $26 million, and the remaining 20 percent in 1931, making Opel a wholly owned GM subsidiary. The sellers were the Opel family, and the dataset does not model people.
3. 2017 General Motors closed the sale of the Opel and Vauxhall businesses, and with them Opel, to Peugeot S.A. (Groupe PSA) on 31 July 2017, under an agreement announced on 6 March 2017; PSA announced the closing on 1 August 2017, and Stellantis dates the acquisition to August 2017. Peugeot S.A. is not in the dataset: it merged with and into FCA on 16 January 2021 to form Stellantis.
4. 2021 Opel came under Stellantis on 16 January 2021, when the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA took effect and Opel was named as one of the fourteen brands of the combined company.
