1. 1925 Walter P. Chrysler formed the Chrysler Corporation out of the ailing Maxwell Motor Corporation on 6 June 1925.
2. 1998 Chrysler Corporation combined with Daimler-Benz AG on 12 November 1998 to form DaimlerChrysler AG, and the Chrysler brand became one of the brands of DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler Group. Chrysler Corporation, the brand's owner until then, is not in the dataset. DaimlerChrysler AG is recorded as mercedes-benz-group, the dataset's name for the continuous Daimler business from 1926, which was renamed Daimler AG in 2007 and Mercedes-Benz Group AG in 2022.
3. 2007 DaimlerChrysler transferred an 80.1 percent controlling interest in its Chrysler activities, and with them the Chrysler brand, to CG Investment Group, LLC, a fund affiliated with Cerberus Capital Management L.P., on 3 August 2007, keeping a 19.9 percent non-controlling interest in Chrysler Holding LLC; it renamed itself Daimler AG that October. Cerberus is not in the dataset.
4. 2009 Chrysler LLC, the Cerberus-controlled company that owned the Chrysler brand, filed for bankruptcy protection in April 2009 and on 10 June 2009 sold its principal operating assets to a new company, Chrysler Group LLC, under section 363 of the United States Bankruptcy Code. Chrysler Group LLC issued its membership interests to the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust, which took 67.7 percent, to Fiat S.p.A., which took 20 percent with rights to increase it, and to the United States Treasury and the Canadian government. Chrysler Group's own report names Chrysler among the brands it sells. None of the parties is in the dataset, and Fiat's interest did not amount to control until 2011.
5. 2011 Fiat S.p.A. took control of Chrysler Group LLC, and with it the Chrysler brand, on 24 May 2011, when it acquired a further 16 percent of the company, taking its interest to 46 percent on a fully diluted basis, and options that became exercisable that day gave it potential voting rights amounting to control; Fiat consolidated Chrysler Group from 1 June 2011 and held 58.5 percent by early 2012, with the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust, the majority member since 2009, holding the rest. Neither party is in the dataset: Fiat S.p.A. merged into Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. in 2014.
6. 2014 Chrysler passed from Fiat S.p.A. to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. on 12 October 2014, when Fiat S.p.A. merged with and into its Dutch subsidiary Fiat Investments N.V., which was renamed Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. on the same day and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange the next. FCA's first annual report names Chrysler among the brands it designs, manufactures and sells. Neither party is in the dataset: Fiat S.p.A. ceased to exist in the merger, and FCA N.V. is the same registrant that was renamed Stellantis in 2021, which the dataset treats as beginning only then. Fiat S.p.A. had owned all of Chrysler Group LLC since 21 January 2014, and Exor, the Agnelli family holding company, consolidated Fiat S.p.A. as a subsidiary before the merger and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. after it, with 29.25% of FCA's shares and 44.37% of its votes at the end of 2014.
7. 2021 Chrysler came under Stellantis on 16 January 2021, when the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA took effect and Chrysler was named as one of the fourteen brands of the combined company.
